The second most common problem associated with fume hoods, after fire, is related to water.
 
When a water leak occurs, it can cause unexpected damage to electronic equipment due to leakage to the floor below.
 
Troubles related to water supply are often become apparent early on after installing fume hoods. However, if plumbing work is done in the same water supply system in other laboratory, the water pressure may be affected by the drop in water pressure and other factors.
 
Actually, there was even a case of water leakage due to  rats chewing on unexposed pipes on the back side.
 


4-4 Advice for
Initial support/correspondence   

 
Consult with the lab manager or the facility administrator and check whether there is any abnormality in primary water supply piping (the side piped from the building to the fume hood).
                                                  
If the cause seems to be on the side of the fume hood, close the valve of the water supply piped to the fume hood for safety and ask the piping company or fume food manufacturer to investigate the cause immediately.
