Warning signs

The paint around the front sash has peeled off

2-2 Professional advice

Because the inside of the fume hood is always exposed to noxious and harmful substances, materials that are resistant to a wide range of chemicals are used, but it is common for the steel exterior parts to be coated with paint.

There are various kinds of paint finishs available, although in general, it does not have such excellent resistance to chemical deterioration. This is because exterior of the fume hood is not like the work area that is always exposed to harmful substances.

The fact that the paint on the exterior of the fume hood has peeled off means that the surroundings of the fume hood, i.e. the laboratory, have been contaminated with harmful substances.

In this case, it may be better to change work procedures and reevaluate the work place.
